Fictions

This research thread is a dialog between the many practices/uses of fiction within Constant.

Fiction as projection.

When developping tools or technological projects, the ability to narrate the project under the form of a story helps to escape the limitations of the productivist agenda (it works!). But the story-telling is necessary to plan the technological construction.

“After six sessions of work they carried out an exercise associating images, words and narrations as a way of creating a collective representation of their server. The collection of images and words bring together the different aspects of what is at stake in the project: not only the technique but also the desired connections between human relationships and the desire to learn, care and form imaginary projections. If no story had emerged out of this assemblage of images, nobody would have known which software had to be installed. Collective server management needs story-telling.”(L.Rassel, Samedis Femmes et Logiciels Libres)

Fiction as pedagogical tool.

In pedagogical contexts, fiction is used to question the concepts thaught to students: future social workers being asked to analyse utopian/dystopian SF scenarios to deepen their understanding of the social. Fiction is used also to involve students in re-imagining and re-appropriating the concepts they have been thaught: they are asked to zrite their own stories. This use of fictions comes from the double dyna,ic of SAS using science fiction as a filter to read critically the present and producing fiction to re-appropriate the future.

Digital networked fictions.

Emerging fictions.
