*WHAT
Constant invites back the people behind 4 projects previously shown in the window of Constant to form a group exhibition of their afterlives. Linking together past and present conditions, urgencies and states of consciousness. The projects were part of Constant_V, a series of small-scale installations with a view on Free, Libre and Open Source culture.
*ABOUT THE INSTALLATIONS
Computational arabic ’العربي الرقمي’ by Rita-Josy Haddoub
Operating within an urgent temporality, a circulation of militant texts have mobilised network infrastructures into oscillations of ’feedback rehearsals’. Re-working a text-based montage, this exploration stitches and maps out a collective ’thought-in-progress’ mobilised through use of social media platforms. The notion of a computational arabic ’العربي الرقمي’ rests on this fragile tension between resisting articulations of alternative network systems, while operating within expanding technologies of border-surveillance violence.
Complicit Chips, Nano-Cybercide by The Underground Division
A poetic report from Complicit Chips. An attempt to take on the nebulous world of accelerated software-operated hardware in a moment in which the nano-necropolitics of microelectronics produce another spin on what Miriyam Aouragh has called "cybercide". When divesting from banalized violence seems both undoable and the only responsible thing to do, what do we do, how do we spin towards liberation and healing deeply damaged grounds and peoples? This animation chips away at the mundane complicity orchestrated by an industry that mesmerizes our infrastructural imaginaries, warms our pockets and computes the screen you are looking at.
Les Télépathes by Claire Williams
The Telepaths is an installation that explores spaces of somnolence, hypnotic or comatose states. It questions the common grounds between the materiality of our conscience and the machines that we shape at the image of our neuronal activity. The Telepaths proposes to explore these spectral states through the recordings of the neuronal activity of people who are in a state of deep coma by imagining a «telepathic device» where their electrical activity irradiates and navigates in the form of waves and sounds. It imagines a sort of collective parallel consciousness, a spectral world formed by our electromagnetic and psychic activity.
Le sanglier et le papillon - La mue by Jen Debauche
These radio creations, the first outbursts of a six-year quest, made their way to L’ANCRE, a film born of a redesigned Arctic and the stories of those who have lived through psychosis. The precursors of a sometimes scattered, sometimes condensed research project, where theory and practice collide with personal accounts, they led to fertile encounters and generated raw, anonymous material that the artist shaped and transfigured for the film. Between real-life fiction and fictionalized reality, these creations question language, attempt to grasp nuances and open up space for the words of those involved.
